Description
Our Surgery Support combination has been around in our clinic and for sale in our store since around 2001.
It includes remedies traditionally indicated to assist with healing and to promote recovery after any type of surgery, including caesarean, dental, hip and knee replacement, lip and tongue-tie, and similar.
The remedies are those most indicated to assist in some of the situations that may be experienced through a surgery such as bruising, bleeding, general trauma, healing and to help to keep the recovery process on track.
The Surgery Support combination also contains remedies to assist with the occasional side effects of and reactions to anaesthetic.
We have also included SOS – our version of Rescue Remedy to help with pre-surgery nerves, anxiety, shock and similar.

The Remedies & How to Use
Surgery Support
A little bit about the remedies in the combination.
- Arnica – For bruising, shock, bleeding, pain relief.
- Bellis Perennis – To help heal deep muscle tissue in abdomen.
- Calendula – To help heal scar tissue and prevent infection.
- Carbo Veg – To support weakness or collapse, or bloating from anaesthetic.
- Hypericum – To help avoid infection and relieve pain, especially after epidural.
- Phosphorus – To help avoid and reduce excessive bleeding, weakness or nausea and dizziness following anaesthetic.
- SOS – our version of Rescue Remedy to help with shock, anxiety and similar
Interactions with conventional medications
Homeopathic remedies work in a different way to pharmacy medicines and will not interact with any medications you have to take for your surgery.
If pain persists and other pain relief is required, give as per the directions on the bottle.
Check with your surgeon, GP or homeopath, as appropriate, if you have any questions or concerns.
When to Start
We usually suggest commencing on the day before your surgery to prep the system.
- 3 doses on the day before.
- 1 dose on the day of the surgery. If nil by mouth, just rub on the lips or wrist.
- Then 3 or 4 times a day for up to one week after surgery or as required for recovery.
- Start as soon as possible after you come round from surgery.
- Putting the drops or 1 pilule in a water bottle or jug will get you off to a good start.
- Don’t forget to stir or shake vigorously to activate the remedy in the water.

Diluting the Remedy
If you are concerned about giving the drops to a baby too often, you can reduce the alcohol further as follows:
- Put your drops in 1/4 glass of water
- Stir vigorously with a teaspoon (this activates the remedy in the water)
- The water is now your remedy
- Give 1/2 teaspoon (0-12 months) or 1 teaspoon (over 12 months) and repeat for each dose
Most remedies are available in pilules.

Dosage for Remedies
These notes are a general guide.
Homeopathy is not an exact science and while we can offer general suggestions as to how to give the remedies, each case will be a little different in terms of how often a remedy may be required to bring about improvement.
With homeopathics, because we are working with energy, not substance, we want to give just enough to stimulate the body to do the job. If your remedy works brilliantly with the first dose, you don’t need to repeat unless the symptoms appear to be coming back again.

Drops
Our products are made up according to traditional homeopathic pharmacy protocols and include a small amount of pure alcohol as a preservative. You can read the FAQ here on alcohol in remedies.
For newborns, if you do not wish to put the drops in the mouth, you may apply to the soles of the foot or the top of the head. You can also purchase drops and add a spray top to your order, so that you can spray the remedy onto the soles of the feet. The remedy will work just as well whichever way you use it.
Babies under 6 months – 1 drop or 1 spray
Babies 6-12 months – 2 drops or 1 spray
12 months and above – 4 drops
Organic German Sucrose
Give 1 or 2 pilules per dose regardless of age.
Crush between 2 clean teaspoons if you are giving to a baby and you are uncomfortable with giving whole.
Sometimes the pilules can look wet. This is due to the nature of the organic sucrose. The alcohol – which is the remedy applied to the pilules – will evaporate off as you use your remedies. They should not stick together and this does not affect the effect of the remedies.

Tissue Salts
If you have selected a single tissue salt remedy or a combination, the general suggestion is to take three times a day for up to three months (as per Dr Schuessler’s advice). However, we would expect you would see improvement much sooner than this, likely as soon as a couple of weeks. If you have taken for one month with no obvious difference, choose another tissue salt or consult your homeopath.
Bottle Sizes
10g pilules: approximately 110 pilules
30ml drops: approximately 120 doses at 4 drops per dose
50ml drops: approximately 200 doses at 4 drops per doses
